"Mother West Wind 'How' Stories" by Thornton W. Burgess

Originally published in 1916, this collection of folk tales explains 'how' various animals came to be what they are. "How Old King Eagle Won His White Head"; "How Old Mr. Squirrel Became Thrifty"; "How Old Mr. Heron Learned Patience"; and "How Tufty the Lynx Happens to Have a Stumpy Tail" are just a few of the delightful tales in this collection.

This copy is a reprint by Grosset & Dunlap, probably in the 1930s. It is in good vintage condition with some yellowing of the pages, but it is perfectly readable.
